Manganese Greensand Manufacturer, Producer
Global Adsorbents is a leading Manganese Greensand manufacturer.
We specialize in manufacturing high-quality Manganese Greensand solutions for a diverse range of industrial applications. Manganese greensand is a naturally occurring mineral derived from processed glauconite greensand. It is capable of using processes like oxidation and filtration to sift and reduce elements and compounds such as manganese(Mn), iron (Fe) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) from water.
Note that the media requires regeneration using diluted potassium permanganate (KMnO4) to restore oxidizing capacities. The product also offers advantages such as the prevention of harmful effects from a chlorine feed; as well as no or low attrition to ensure a lengthy service life.
Using Manganese greensand requires a pH range between 6.2 and 8.5, as well as an optimum temperature of 26.5° C.
Its unique catalytic coating allows it to not only filter out unwanted contaminants but also oxidize them, making it a dual-function media in water treatment applications.
Global Adsorbents supplies high-quality Manganese Greensand suitable for municipal, industrial, and domestic filtration systems, optimized for long bed life, consistent performance, and easy regeneration.

How to Use Manganese Greensand Effectively:
Preconditioning (Before Use):
- The media should be backwashed thoroughly to remove fines.
- It must be charged with a potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) solution before first use to activate the catalytic coating.
Filtration Operation:
- The media will oxidise iron, H₂S, manganese as well as trapping precipitates within the bed.
- Works efficiently with incoming water pH between 6.2 to 8.5.
Backwashing:
- Regular backwash is required to remove accumulated precipitates.
- Backwash rate: ~12–15 gpm/ft² (varies by manufacturer and system design).
Regeneration:
- Periodically w/ a 0.5–1% potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) solution
- Frequency depends on contaminant load, typically every 24–72 hours of operation.
Best Practices for Performance & Longevity
| Best Practice | Description |
|---|---|
| Regular Regeneration | Use a KMnO₄ solution to recharge the media and restore oxidation capacity. Never skip this step. |
| Monitor pH Levels | Maintain feedwater pH between 6.2–8.5 for effective oxidation. Outside this range, efficiency drops. |
| Use a Flow Controller | Ensure consistent service flow and prevent channeling through the media bed. |
| Backwash Thoroughly | Prevent bed fouling by regular and complete backwashing. Inadequate backwashing can lead to clogging. |
| Avoid Chlorination Ahead of Media | Unless media is designed for it (Greensand Plus), avoid introducing chlorine before the bed unless approved. |
| Dry Storage Before Use | Keep unused greensand dry and away from direct sunlight. Moisture exposure before use can damage coating. |
Client FAQ – Manganese Greensand
What does manganese greensand remove from water?
It removes:
- Iron (Fe)
- Manganese (Mn)
- Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) (rotten egg odor)
It does so by oxidizing these contaminants and filtering out the precipitates.
Do I need to regenerate the media?
Can I use this media in drinking water systems?
What is the lifespan of manganese greensand?
Is this the same as Greensand Plus?
Can I install this myself, or do I need a technician?
Installation is straightforward, but proper setup, backwash control, and regeneration cycles require understanding. A technician is recommended for the first-time setup.
